Diana returns home to her birthplace in Tensaw, Alabama. Capturing the heart in images from Five Rivers watershed in upper Baldwin County down to the Mobile Delta, she paints place and home.  

Rowboats, sloops, schooners, taxis, motorboats, huge four-masted windstars; each one has her purpose and her own traverse over the seas. 

Each one has her story to tell.

 Paintings have emerged from voyages in the Aegean, the wild Caribbean with its magical islands, Belize's Victoria Passage and Croatia's Dalmatian Coast. I grew up in Latin America. Now I’m trying to see everyplace else. 

  Finland and Sweden are in the Deep North. Stockholm is where the buildings are exquisitely preserved in that disciplined yet free culture. Athens is layer upon layer of civilization. Mobile is rising, few know that MARDI GRAS began there …..

  The Fibonacci Theory and the Golden Ratio; like every seventh wave, it all ties together in a sublime architecture. Trees, blossoms and vegetables all have precise, spiraling sequences in their leaves, fruit and petals. 

 Dancing is the most sublime and total form of expression an artist can undertake to perform. I did it from childhood and then professionally for 35 years. It is an intensely physical, yet spiritual event. 

  “Minis” are the miniatures of these paintings reduced for fun. They are playfully framed and can fit anywhere. I can make one upon demand and it will be unique since it will be handmade.

These sketches are of far away places which have been drawn as I have approached them from the sea on a sailboat. They are executed using colored charcoal pencils.
